Proprietors: Dominic and Jayne Jeffrey
We purchased our property on a whim in the January of 2004. A 16th century longere set on the edge of a rural village some 6km from StHilaire du Harcouet. The property has been lovingly restored to create four properties, three of which are the cottages to rent.
We have tried to blend a little of the old with some new. The property is predominantly granite and flint based though our third cottage for rent is more modern, finished with timber cladding. All windows and doors are double glazed. Each cottage has been provided with external areas for relaxing and dining should you prefer. A bbq is provided for each cottage to enjoy a little outdoor entertaining and living. All the cottages benefit from tv and dvd with the option for English, French and European TV. Endless dvds are available. Wifi is free and available throughout the property.
On site we have created a boules court for those that wish to while a little time the French way with an old pastime. Croquet is available to play in the garden or just take a seat to take in the views and read a book from one of our many benches, picnic tables or seating areas. Most have parasols to keep you in the shade if preferred. Also available is a shared pool of nearly 10m x 5m. It comes with a cover should you wish to swim without the elements of the weather. Beside it is a lovely decked area to take in the sun or even watch it go down at night. The perfect space to be with friends and loved ones if you dont fancy a swim. Bicycles are available if you fancy a ride around the village or for those that wish to go further we have routes available.
The private drive is stone covered so speed is at a minimum. Original features scatter the grounds as touching reminders of what once was. An office/reception is on site to welcome guests and provide necessary information if required. We have also provided a metered launderette on site with washing and drying facilities. We supply bed linen and towels and for those staying longer than a week we provide spare linen should our clients wish to change. Ceramic radiators are installed if required or if you want a more cosy feel each cottage has its own log burner.
All the cottages are let on a self catering basis, though for one or two night stays we will provide a continental breakfast.
For the longer stays Jayne will always leave a welcome pack of various goodies within the cottage for your arrival. We will always try to accommodate for any needs and requirements where possible.
We have come from having had a successful 34 years background within the hotel and restaurant industry hoping to bring some understanding, skills and touches to our new venture.
Our one bedroom cottage was the original cowshed where the cows were milked. This had the original troughs and workings for collection of the milk. We have tried to keep some of its original wooden features and stonework to create an open plan kitchen, lounge and diner on the ground floor with a lovely bedroom and ensuite on the first floor. The cottage has a fully functional kitchen with hob powered by bottled gas combined with an electric fan oven. Fridge and freezer are built in to the units and the usual microwave, toaster and cooking utensils are provided. Coffee can be produced by a filter machine, espresso pot, cafetiere or the kettle. It depends how you prefer it!!
Our two bedroom cottage was a hayloft being used. Unfortunately we had to remove the wooden shoot as it was where the stairs were being situated and it was falling to bits. A few replaced timbers and we were good to start the renovation. This became a joy and we were really happy with the quirkiness of its layout. Both bedrooms are spacious with all you would need. Kingsize beds are in both but they will support a z - bed/cot if required. Despite two bathrooms only one bedroom has an ensuite. For four persons we feel there is plenty of room for entertaining, cooking and dining.
